World Soundtrack Awards names French composer Philippe Rombi guest of honour
French film composer Philippe Rombi will be the guest of honour at the 24th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, part of the Ghent Film Festival, organisers announced on Wednesday. His visit will be accompanied by a concert conducted by Belgian director Dirk Brossé, with the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra.
Rombi is best known for his work for director François Ozon on films such as Swimming Pool, Jeune et jolie, Potiche and Mon crime. He also worked on Joyeux Noël, directed by Christian Carion, comedies such as Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis and Rien à déclarer, both directed by Dany Boon, and Le Temps des secrets, directed by Christophe Barratier.
In 2008, his score for Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (Welcome to the Sticks) was nominated for Best Original Comedy Score at the fifth International Film Music Critics Association Awards for Excellence.
Rombi came to Film Fest Gent once before in 2005, when he attended the premiere of Joyeux Noël. In 2008, he was a member of the festival's international jury.
The World Soundtrack Awards will be presented on 16 October at the Muziekcentrum de Bijloke in Ghent.
