Zizou Bergs reaches first ATP final in Auckland
Belgium’s Zizou Bergs has advanced to his first ATP final after defeating Portugal’s Nuno Borges at the ASB Classic in Auckland. The 25-year-old emerged victorious in a three-set match, winning 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 after 2 hours and 16 minutes.
Bergs, ranked 71st in the world, entered the tournament through qualifiers and steadily climbed to the semi-finals, where he faced seventh-seed Borges, ranked 36th. Despite a dip in the second set, Bergs recovered to secure the deciding set and his place in Saturday’s final.
The final marks a significant milestone for Bergs, who is preparing for the Australian Open. He will face French veteran Gaël Monfils, a former world number six, currently ranked 52nd.
